From proposal to final video

Our process

Ten steps, from proposal to final video. Between each round of deliveries we factor in your feedback, so we never get too far down the wrong path.

  1. 1

    Proposal

We share a proposal with a project description, a delivery schedule, a cost and a proposed art direction.

  2. 2

    Work order

If everyone is on board, we provide a work order with dates and deliverables. It gets signed and a deposit is made before work begins.

  3. 3

    Storyboards

Rough sketches of the flow and composition of the whole video.

  4. 4

    Style frames

A few static images that show what the finished animation will look like.

  5. 5

    Art assets

    The artwork for each scene.

  6. 6

    VO and music

Voiceover is recorded and a music track is chosen.

  7. 7

    Animatic

A very rough draft that checks the timing works as a whole.

  8. 8

    Rough full pass

The whole video, animated start to finish.

  9. 9

    Sound effects

Sound design and the final audio mix.

  10. 10

    Final video

Everything polished and ready to go.

Rounds of feedback

If you need more rounds of feedback, we can factor that into the work order. It generally depends on how many stakeholders there are, and how involved they like to be before seeing the final video.

Nothing is worse than delivering what everyone thinks is final, and then having a stakeholder nobody has heard from the entire project say “this is a great start.”

What our clients say

Testimonials

Working with them was honestly a breath of fresh air. There was very little back-and-forth needed to get things moving, and they were great at keeping the project on track without making me feel like I was constantly managing the process. We got a lot done in a surprisingly short amount of time, and the quality never felt rushed.

The work was really strong, but what surprised me most was how competitive the pricing was. They understood where we actually needed to spend money and where we didn’t. It felt less like hiring a vendor and more like having a smart creative partner who happened to be very conscious of the budget.

Eric is a really good communicator. And I mean that in the unglamorous, extremely valuable sense of the word. If something was unclear, he asked. If something changed, we knew about it. If we were heading toward a problem, we heard about it early. No disappearing into the animation cave for three weeks and coming back with a surprise.
DisneyAccount Director
One of my favorite things about working with Nocturnal is that they’re usually thinking two steps ahead. They’ll flag a potential issue before it becomes an actual issue, and more importantly, they don’t just bring you the problem. They’ll come back with a few ways to solve it and let us decide what makes the most sense. That’s incredibly valuable when you’re juggling a million moving pieces.

After another studio was unable to deliver to our expectations, we pivoted to Nocturnal. Right off the bat they provided an exhaustive project roadmap which called out the red flags in our initial scope. By collaboratively planning, we were able to avoid those pitfalls while still allowing us to hit our deadline. I wish we had gone with Nocturnal right from the start!

The team at Nocturnal helped distill our messaging into an engaging short explainer video. We’ve seen a huge spike in player interaction on our platforms since launching the video!

We were racking our brains trying to figure out how to lower our customer acquisition costs when we got introduced to Nocturnal. For the one time cost of a video, we’re now able to convert new customers around the clock. It’s been so successful that we’ve had to expand our team to keep up with the new demand!

By collaborating with Nocturnal, my team was able to shave weeks off of our go-to-market timeline. We provided *rough* wireframes and they were able to create a beautiful prototype before we coded a single line. The internal stakeholders were thrilled when we beat our initial timelines AND came in under budget.

Motion projects can get messy very quickly once you have multiple rounds, assets, stakeholders, and a dozen little things flying around. These guys were exceptionally organized. I always knew what was happening, what they needed from me, and what was coming next. It let me focus on the creative instead of chasing production details.
